Denfeld Food Forest and Victory Garden
Coming Spring 2016: a beautiful new community green space, featuring edible plants to be enjoyed by all! The Denfeld Food Forest and Victory Garden is a new Duluth Community Garden Program (DCGP) community garden that will be located across Grand Avenue from the future Whole Foods Co-op Denfeld and next to Denfeld High School and the future site of the Seeds of Success deep winter greenhouse. The Denfeld Food Forest and Victory Garden is made possible by generous contributions from the Victory Fund, City of Duluth, and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
The Denfeld Food Forest and Victory Garden has two parts: Phase I, which includes up to 20 raised garden beds, a garden fence, and rainwater collection systems. This phase is designed and will be built by construction crews in early spring, as soon as the ground is ready. Phase II is the commons area or food forest, which will include public gathering space and edible plants to be enjoyed by all. There are lots of possibilities for this space, and it will be built by volunteers–we need your help! Please contact Megan if you are interested in volunteering.
Dan Kislinger drew a potential design of the commons area incorporating ideas from a community meeting held on February 11th–the image is below. Please contact DCGP with any ideas, comments, or questions you have regarding this design–it’s still very open to feedback, and we’d like to hear from you.
