The Duluth Community Garden Program currently stewards 19 garden sites across the city of Duluth. Each site has a unique history, features and community.
Each garden plot is approximately 20 x 20 and is leased to an individual, family or group. Fees range from $20-$100.
The program provides tilling (for a small fee on a sliding scale between $10-$30), information, encouragement, access to a vegetable gardening library, a tool-lending system, and compost for the gardens when funding is available.
The garden program holds a seed and transplant sale every spring to make high quality vegetable seeds and transplants that are suited to northern climates available to our members.
Signing up for a plot
During the winter, gardeners from the previous season are given a chance to renew their plot contracts, provided they have met all of the conditions in the contract.
During this time, prospective new gardeners should contact the DCGP office to be put on the waiting list for a new plot. It’s best to contact the office as early as possible (like January) to get on the waitlist, especially for more popular gardens, since we contact people in the order that they were added to the list. In March or early April, DCGP staff will contact you regarding availability of a plot. There may not be a plot at your preferred garden, but there will likely be one elsewhere.
